Vista Nov CTP is cancelled (and why Vista isn't on my tablet anymore)

I mentioned awhile back that I was running the Vista build 5231 on my tablet. What I neglected to mention is that a few weeks back I went back to good old XP Tablet Edition.

The lack of ink (the Ink Control is broken in this build) just got to be too much. Compounding this was the trouble I had getting Visual Studio installed because of the previous versions I had (even after running VS_UNINSTALL). On top of that, I've been running the Office 12 for awhile and I decided one core beta product was enough... and since I've already upgraded all of my notes to the wonderful OneNote 12, well, the decision was easy.

It's also made me appreciate XP Tablet Edition. It's nice. It's obviously a lot more stable, and since Vista hasn't really been tuned yet performance is much improved. I also missed Toshiba's power management (which is excellent, even if Vista adds better base support) and the soft buttons.

I was holding out hope that the November CTP would fix the Ink Control issue and I would go back to Vista, but apparently that's not happening. (That is, there won't be a Nov CTP). As RandomElements passes along:

MSFT revealed in yesterdays chat with testers that a December CTP build should be available before Christmas and will be almost feature complete with a fully feature complete beta 2 build following in January.

Just as well... I'll have some time over the Christmas break to play with it in between games of Madden.
