Speaking of groups that sound like Coldplay, I went to a spectacular Keane show last week at Radio City Music Hall. We missed the opening act, Regina Spektor. Keane came on around 8:45 and played a little over an hour and a half.
They played just about their entire debut album (with the exception, I think, of Untitled 1 - despite being one of my favorites, I guess if it doesn't get named it doesn't get played?) and a handful of new songs. They opened with Can't Stop Now and Your Eyes Open. Bend and Break led into a couple of new songs, first an extremely catchy Nothing in Your Way and then a slower one I missed the name of. Then they went to some of the bigger hits, with a hypnotic, engaging performance of We Might as Well Be Strangers followed by an energetic performance of Everybody's Changing. The performances of Sunshine and Somewhere Only We Know were great. After the encore, they played a newer song, Try Again, that Tom descibed as "the best song they've ever written". It was quite good, but I preferred Nothing in Your Way even of the new songs. They closed the show out with This is the Last Time and, after the second encore, Bedshaped, their latest single.
All in all, it was one of the better shows I've seen in awhile. They sounded a lot better than Snow Patrol, but I'm sure the venue played a major role in that: Radio City Music Hall has much better accoustics than Roseland. (Also worth noting: Keane sold out Radio City while Snow Patrol had trouble filling Roseland). When their new album comes out, I'm sure you'll be hearing a lot of Nothing in the Way.
And man, Tim (Rice-Oxley) really rocks out on piano... the show was worth it for that alone :)
