Finding Stuff...

Finding stuff is definitely the hot thing now. As a follow up to my previous post, a few more search related links (for my own reference if nothing else).

Google Deskbar API: Now you can write plug-ins for the Google Deskbar in any .NET language. Now we just need pluggable extensions for Google Deskbar also in .NET. [via Jono]

Google Scholar: Restricts searches to academic writings. Now we just need to get rid of Westlaw and Lexis and replace it with Google Law.

GDSPlus: a free “add-on” to Google Desktop Search that allows you more flexibility in what is indexed. I put “add-on” in quotes because Google Desktop doesn't seem to be inherently extensible - rather this requires installing patched binaries. (Yes, Scott, scary!). Like I said above, it would be nice to see a native extensibility API here (both in indexing new document types and in getting at the search results). [via Scott]

blinkx: An application that provides automatic contextual searches based on the current content being viewed, including results from local documents and the web. Version 2 (available in beta) adds the Smart Folders feature, allowing you to create implicitly categorized folders for your documents. Interesting indeed. I've installed and it seems quite slick. I'm going to run it through the paces - if it lives up to the promises it certainly could be a contender in my search for search utopia... [via Mark Orchant]

Koders.com: A search engine for open source code. You can filter based on both language and license. [via Powertoys]
