Tablet Watch: Dell Tablet on the way

It's about time, but some news over at Engadget that we should be seeing a Dell tablet for the holiday season. No detailed specifications or pictures yet, but it is apparently a 12.1" convertible running the forthcoming Tablet 2005 OS.

This is obviously a big step in taking the tablet to the masses. I think just how big a step largely depends on the price point and how it stacks up to their other laptops.

On the other hand, I think it might have been better to launch before the upcoming school year when all the college kids are buying their new laptops instead of aiming for the holiday season. Then again, this one might be Microsoft's fault - they were probably waiting for the Lonestar update.

This leak comes on the heels of the IBM tablet sighting last week.  Speaking of the IBM tablet, Christopher Coulter mentioned in comments that the specs I linked to were for the LG prototype, and that this tablet is actually a different unit.

Sounds like, one way or another, I'm going to have to upgrade in the next 6-8 months.

Who said the Tablet PC is dead??
