Michael Hyatt has a great post on his reasons to purchase a Tablet PC and how it has improved his productivity.
I've had a very similar experience over the past year as Michael. As I mentioned previously, I rarely choose slate mode over laptop mode - after all, I type faster than I write. As Michael points out, the added utility is when he brings it into a meeting - something he wouldn't do with a conventional laptop.
The Tablet is not dying; it is simply reinventing itself as the conventional laptop.
