Two weeks with OneNote

The ability to split payees pages and show two at once - for example, one for reference and one for taking class notes - would be nice. In fact, it doesn't even let you open two instances, though I imagine some hack like the side notes would help here.

The Ink groups problem I was talking about in my last post is not so much of an issue if you set the pen mode to insert only handwriting. As it turns out, they were being put in separate groups because it thought it was a drawing. This was in my mind the real showstopper, and as a result I've decided that I can in fact use it instead of Journal. The organization stuff is actually pretty nice.

And I'll reiterate - not being able to change stroke of OneNote sucks!

It would be really cool if I could find something that could “expand” short-hand to a full word, all the while keeping it as Ink (in other words, insert a new Ink blob, because I'm storing this all as Ink not as text).

On a similar theme, it would be neat if the text automatically reflowed for you when you erase some text.

Just some final thoughts added by keyboard:

I guess my handwriting is getting better, because as you can see it only made one mistake this time. Although one thing that I think has helped was the recently released Dictionary Tool - it's especially good if you're using legal or technical jargon that it wouldn't necessarily find otherwise (or for OneNote for that matter, so it doesn't think it's “overate”.

For that matter, if you own a Tablet PC and haven't already checked out the PowerTools, you should.

Oh - and there's another addition in my class to the Tablet PC community. A guy was telling me today that he just picked up one of the Fujitsu models. I told him he should have either gotten the indoor/outdoor model or the Motion if he wanted a slate, but oh well. Didn't seem like too much of a techie, maybe he didn't need the extra computing power :)
