Electronic textbooks

I bought my textbooks this weekend. Three hardcover books, each 1,200 pages or greater.

What really pisses me off, though, is that I wasn't able to purchase them online. They're just not available.

I realize there are a whole new set of problems to deal with when you get into the electronic publication space, which are actually quite interesting in their own regard.

So now I have to carry around these monsters with me each day, lugging them to work and a half-hour each way on the subway, instead of just loading them up on and carrying around my tablet.

I already bought an electronic law dictionary program, and it's really nice because it's all hyperlinked and searchable. And with an electronic book, I can takes notes that are indexed and searchable and I can copy out into a paper - all things I also can't do with a physical copy.

Sigh.

Maybe if I had the time and a good scanner, and if the books weren't so expensive and won't look so nice on my bookshelf, I'd undo the binding and scan it all in. Or maybe someone else out on the Internet already has. That would be sweet.
