After a great week in Waikiki, I'll be in Maui until I come home on Sunday night. We got here yesterday, and it's definitely a bit more relaxed here.
Waikiki was great, but it was a little built up for what I was expecting. The bar scene was pretty good (also open until 4am), but I was a little disappointed at the beaches and in general it felt like a big strip mall. It could have been in Florida. If you do ever come to Waikiki though, I definitely recommend taking a tour of the island. We drove around it on Tuesday and outside of the commercial areas it can be quite gorgeous.
Some of the "local" beaches are unbelievable, but I'm told you shouldn't try surfing there - the locals don't like giving up their turf!
One thing that sucks now though is that I'm not picking up the APs I was back in Waikiki. Oh well, that's probably a good thing... even if I go through connectivity withdrawal. It will be nice to relax before I come back and to hit the ground running. I start orientation for school on Monday night, and have a few projects at work which will be at full steam when I get back on Tuesday.
I also managed to snap a few pretty good pictures - I'll try to find somewhere to post them when I get back.
