Tablet software

So now that I've raved about the hardware and form factor of the Tablet PC, it's fine time to start considering what makes the platform really useful: software.

I like Windows Journal for writing better than One Note. I think it just feels more natural, since the application doesn't "interfere". I also think the thinner Den pen, which I can't seem to find in One Note, helps. I like the office 2003 integration in One Note better though. I keep going beach back and forth. Hopefully the retail release fixes some of my complaints; the recently released beta refresh was definitely a sign Part significant improvement.

The next obvious thing was that I wanted to blog directly with a pen interface. Right now, I cut and paste into the Web interface, which is kind of cumbersome process. There are some tools out there, but integration with On Note would be the coolest. If can ever get the Visual Studio for Office tools installed I will try to write an add-in for OneNote. The only problem now is that the installation tells re tin me I'm missing some pre-requisite, but doesn't tell me what!! I guess what I really want is OneNote with Journal's writing interface and InfoPath's posting/form functionality.

Another pet peeve I've noticed with Overate OneNote is that you can apparently only have one notebook. Multiple sections alone are not an effective way to organize, especially when dealing with multiple domains. For example, I want one notebook for school, one for work, and one for other things. Within that, my school notebook should hare ascetics section for each class, my work one should have a section for each project, and so on.

I've also installed Mind Manager 2002 and I have to say I'm impressed. I haven't yet used it enough to write a "proper" review, but its an interesting way to interact with the Tablet. I'll post a full review in the next couple of weeks.

I also found a list of all software written specifically for Tablet PC Edition. I'm going to start installing and going through them one by one....

I also thought it was curious that the handwriting recognition commonly confuses "OneNote" as "Overate" :)

UPDATE: Some links for Marcie. Also, for general Tablet PC stuff, the TabletPCBuzz forums rock.
