.NET is IT 'asbestos'

Peoplesoft CEO Craig Conway says "Running enterprise software on a PC is a known bad thing... .Net is a home formula to make your own asbestos. PeopleSoft is absolutely convinced enterprise software should not be resident on PCs."

I noticed this earlier too. There's a few bizarre statements here. This quote, for example:

Conway then added that Microsoft's .Net strategy will not help business to control the costs of their enterprise applications, as it assumes code will be executed by PCs.

Unless Conway or the author is substituing the word "PC" for "Windows-based machine", I don't quite understand where he is going with this. The article sure seems to imply PC means workstation though.

The article also says that Conway advocates "Linux-based server-centric operating environments for enterprise applications as one way to achieve this goal." Uhm, ok. Someone please explain what their architecture is, and how exactly it differs from an ASP.NET server-based solution?

It does make me realize one thing - whether or not I was a fan of Microsoft and .NET, seeing a thought process such as this in action makes me damn glad I don't work for Craig Conway and PeopleSoft.
